An Exploratory Summer

This image was born from a summer in Boston when everything felt uncertain. I got stuck, the way you do when you're trying to figure out the shape of your career. So I went back to the only thing that's ever helped me move through that: the act of creation.

This still life photograph was one of the first I ever composed. It wasn't planned. It was a way out of the fog. It belongs to what I think of as my exploratory summer. The beginning of selecting objects. Arranging them carefully. And trusting that something would come through.
